A 37-year-old rural Kearney man faces a misdemeanor charge for having a loaded handgun in his carry-on luggage as he was headed for a flight at Kearney Regional Airport.
Randy Black is charged with violating his permit to carry a concealed weapon. He's pleaded not guilty and his trial is scheduled for Jan. 31.
Authorities say Black's weapon was detected by a security X-ray machine at the airport on the morning of Sept. 25.
The Transportation Security Administration says firearms must be placed in locked, hard-sided containers in checked baggage and be unloaded. The owners also must declare the presence of the weapons to the airlines.
Black wasn't considered a terror threat. His case wasn't forwarded to federal prosecutors.
