UPDATE: Interstate Traffic Flowing After Brief Shutdown

A man threatening to jump off a bridge at 36th Street briefly forced the shutdown of westbound traffic on I-80 Tuesday afternoon.

Omaha Police told WOWT 6 News the man was around 40 years of age. He pulled his car up to the ledge of the bridge, and proceeded to climb. Officers said it took 45 minutes for 2 female officers to convince him to come down.

All westbound traffic was diverted off of 13th, JFK and 480.

It was reopened as of 4:30 p.m.

The man, who officers described as distraught, is now at University of Nebraska Medical Center.
