Lancaster County sheriff’s investigators are investigating a shooting that left a man hospitalized in critical condition and his girlfriend’s father in jail.
Deputies were called to a home at 165 Monroe Street in Bennet, Nebraska at 2:10am Wednesday. The caller, identified as 47-year-old Renae Kinney, reported that her husband 50-year old Michael Kinney had shot a 21-year-old man.
The victim, Jeffery Stotler, was found in the backyard with gunshot wounds to the upper chest and abdomen. He was transported to Bryan LGH West where he was reported in critical but stable condition.
Michael Kinney was arrested for first degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
An investigation revealed that the Kinneys’ daughter Miranda had been in a dating relationship with Stotler. A domestic disturbance between the couple led to the shooting.
A search warrant was served on the home Wednesday morning. Investigators continued to interview witnesses.
