Most of the time it's very quiet in the Ponca Hills area. But Monday April 28th, homeowner Tony Stewart said Maurice Thomas broke into his home.
"This didn't even turn, he just went boom and as he ran, he just kept his momentum and come running up and I was like right at the top of the stairs," said Stewart.
In the chaos, Stewart said his girlfriend grabbed their two small children and took them to the back bedroom. Stewart then tried to figure out what Thomas wanted.
"He just ran in saying that someone shot at him, call 911 and I asked her where the phone was, she couldn't find hers and I said here's mine and I gave him my phone," said Stewart.
But even with the phone in hand, Stewart said Thomas wasn't able to dial the number.
"I said what is wrong with you? He said I need help, I need help. I said, something is wrong with you," said Stewart.
Then Thomas pulled out a bottle of mace and started spraying.
"Yeah so I had orange blotches from here up, all the way to here over and down," said Stewart.
As if things couldn't get worse, Stewart said Thomas then ran into the kitchen. "He ended up grabbing the knife out of the drawer and he said call 911, and I said put the knife down before you get hurt. And then he went boom, and slit his wrist."
That's when Douglas County deputy's showed up and arrested Thomas. Stewart said through it all he just tried to stay calm.
"I believe that is what saved my life, is I was trying to act like, I am on your side," said Stewart.
He said he hopes Thomas gets the help he needs and that everything in Ponca Hills returns back to quiet.
Deputies did confirm illegal drugs were found in Thomas' system. They weren't able to release what kind of drug.
