A man shot and killed Thursday morning had been wounded at the exact same location nearly two years ago.
Police found 23-year-old Antone Cooper lying near 26th and Spencer in Omaha shortly after midnight with a gunshot wound to the face. Cooper was seriously wounded near the intersection in September 2011.
A second victim Thursday morning, 34-year-old Deon Jackson, was shot in the same vicinity. He was taken to the hospital by private vehicle and is expected to recover.
One person was arrested at the scene for being uncooperative with police.
The shootings came just four hours after Lisa McIntyre spoke at an anti-violence vigil. Last Sunday, her twin sons, 28-year-old Branden and Kevin McIntyre, were also shot at 26th and Spencer. Kevin later died. Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said that shooting appears to have been justified. McIntyre said at the vigil that she forgives the gunman.
"All you hear is pow, pow, pow,” Racheelle Stricklin said. She heard gunshots twice this week. Both happened a few doors away from her apartment. “Woke my daughter up, she couldn't go to sleep." As a mother she's scared and worried for her family’s safety. “It's been like four shootings back-to-back. I don't know what it is. I think it's gang-related."
Stricklin has only lived there for a few months. The idea of moving is at the front of her mind. "It's just crazy how you just move into, not even a long time, and just hear all these shootings and just seeing everyone get shot."
Police haven't said if the shootings are related. Anyone with information may call the anonymous tip line at 402-444-7867.
