Man Gets Jail Time For Abandoning Dogs

A 28-year-old Giltner, Nebraska man has been given jail and probation for abandoning three dogs at a home.

Eric Derr was sentenced Tuesday to 10 days in jail and six months of probation during which time he can't own any animals. He also was given 30 days of jail in July unless that time is waived by a judge. Derr pleaded no contest and was convicted of misdemeanor animal abandonment or neglect.

Officials say one pit bull was only hours from death when it was found with two other dogs on December 20th. Another dog was also emaciated, but not as badly. An older dog found was euthanized because of its condition and disposition.
