A teacher in Eagle, Nebraska recently traveled to our Washington, D.C. to push for a change in the way students learn about physical fitness and health.
Stan Erickson teaches physical education at Eagle Elementary School, part of the Waverly School District, and knows firsthand how important it is for kids to get at least an hour of physical activity every day.
While in Washington last month, Erickson represented PE teachers from across the state while urging members of Congress to change current legislation to make physical education a priority in schools.
“The health of our children and the physical fitness of our children greatly affects what happens to their academic achievement as well as their well-being throughout their life and we felt it was very important to be part of this act."
Erickson told members of the Education Committee that PE and health need to be considered core subjects in schools to make sure kids are getting enough exercise every day.
