Eight-year old Chava Medaris has been through a tough battle with spina bifida including eight surgeries. One of the highlights of her young life took place about 18 months ago when the Make-A-Wish Foundation sent her to Disney World.
"I felt pretty surprised because I had a dream that they would let me go," Chava said in an interview with WOWT6 News. "The it came true and I got really surprised."
The trip was not only a blessing for Chava but her entire family.
"Four kids, so it's a family of six," explained her father Abe. "We were completely blown away, first class all the way, it was completely amazing."
The Medaris family has become a strong supporter of Make-A-Wish and the idea of donating unused airline miles to support families in the future is something they embrace.
The Wishes in Flight program uses those miles to support wishes across the country and a link to make a donation is included with this story.
"We got involved as soon as we got back from the trip, said Chava's mother Gail. "We signed up as volunteers, basically just love to help out with whatever we can."
Chava will finish 2nd grade at Omaha Christian Academy this spring and even though she's only eight, she has long range plans to perhaps study medicine.
"I wanna be able to help other kids that have problems and families that need help."
