A Lincoln shelter for homeless people has cut almost 10 percent of its staff so it can keep open its free medical clinic.

Barber says the clinic helps low-income people who have no health insurance or Medicaid.
A federal program that provides liability protection to medical volunteers requires that the program be free.
The clinic has three paid staffers and pays for prescriptions and has volunteer medical staffers.
Last year it served about 6,500 people and had 11,000 patient visits. Barber says he expects there will be nearly 15,000 patient visits this year.
