Lincoln YWCA Leader Quits Before Omaha Sentencing
The executive director of the Lincoln YWCA has resigned, leaving the post just days before her scheduled sentencing for theft in Omaha.
YWCA board president Toberlin Burger says Denise Scholl-Serrett stepped down on Saturday.
Scholl-Serrett pleaded no contest to the felony theft charge and is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday.
She said Monday that she resigned because she didn't want her past to harm the YWCA's mission.
Authorities say Scholl-Serrett was a vice president for DEI Communities, an Omaha property management company, from March 2007 to November 2009.
An internal audit turned up more than $23,500 worth of unauthorized charges and bonuses. Court documents also say she forged a subordinate's signature and used that person's company credit card to buy two cellphones.
