The city of Lincoln will be raising rates to new heights when it replaces parking meters downtown.
City officials on Wednesday will interview representatives of three companies vying for a city contract to replace the meters.
The contract bid request included meter options for credit card payment and several other extras. The parking rates will go to $1 an hour from 50 cents.
City parking manager Ken Smith says the increase is aimed at raising revenue and moving longer-term parkers to city parking garages and out of the limited number of convenient spaces for short-term parkers.
Lincoln hasn't raised parking rates since 1999.
