Officer Dragged 270 Feet

A Lincoln police officer has been treated at a hospital after being dragged 270 feet by a vehicle he'd pulled over Friday morning.

Police say it all began about 12:30 a.m. at 14th and D streets where the officer pulled over a vehicle after the driver failed to signal a turn. The officer discovered that 32-year-old Jermaine Dabney had several felony warrants from Douglas County and Iowa.

The officer said he asked Dabney to step out of the vehicle, but he refused. The suspect then put the vehicle in gear and rolled up the window, trapping the officer’s arm.

Police say Dabney then took off, dragging the officer down the road. Another cruiser blocked the street. Officers then observed the suspect crawling over the center console of the car and get out through the passenger’s side. Dabney was captured after a short pursuit.

The officer was treated for abrasions and bruising to his left arm and torso. He was able to finish his shift.
