A Lincoln man serving up to 35 years in prison for using a belt to beat his girlfriend and dubbed a "serial abuser" by his trial judge is suing arresting officers, the prosecutor and prison system.

Robert Clayborne pleaded no contest last year to assault and a weapons count. Authorities say he beat his girlfriend with a belt for two hours and threatened her with a knife.

Earlier this week, Clayborne sued in federal court, saying police violated his rights by forcing their way into his home without a warrant and arresting him without reading him his Miranda rights. He also accuses the Lancaster County Attorney's Office of misconduct and claims the prison has not provided him with medication or mental health services to deal with a bipolar disorder.
