Lawmakers Consider Bikers, Cyclists, To Run Stop Lights
Nebraska lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow motorcyclists and bikers to run red lights.
If LB 85 passes, people would be able to go through the lights, with a few conditions attached.
Columbus senator Paul Schumacher said stop light sensors don’t respond to cyclists and bikers, so they should be allowed to go through if they’ve been waiting for a long time.
If the light's been red for more than two minutes and no one else is around, people would be able to go through the lights.
However, the Nebraska Sheriffs’ Association said the bill would be difficult to enforce.
Lincoln assistant city engineer Randy Hoskins said a safer solution is for city workers to fix problematic traffic light sensors.
