A southeast Nebraska lavender entrepreneur has been harvesting the fragrant raw materials she uses for a variety of products.
The Lincoln Journal Star says Suzi Kelley would use the bundles she and several helpers cut earlier this week to make salve, soap, lotions, insect repellent and other items that she sells to retailers in Lincoln and Omaha and online.
The Kelleys began growing lavender five years ago on a few acres of farmland owned by Todd's father. They soon learned that an open field subject to Nebraska weather wasn't the best place for her English and French lavender.
But the plants found a haven when they were placed in a more sheltered spot behind the Kelleys' home near Bennet.
