This program has served students from a half-dozen states and aims to encourage Latinas in 9th and 10th grade to attend college through a residential one-week summer program that emphasizes science and technology.
This one-of-a-kind program selects a theme each summer, and participants immerse themselves in hands-on activities, field trips and collaborative sessions emphasizing math and science.
“The LSA is an excellent opportunity for Latinas to experience the richness of college life and enhance their skills,” said Maria Luisa Gastόn, director of the Latina Summer Academy and Hispanic admissions at CSM. “Over 200 outstanding young women have benefited from the LSA and we believe it is a tremendous asset to the community.”
This year’s Academy, “Dream and Discover,” runs from June 19-24, and will focus on exploring the world of career choices in math and science for 45 students from Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri.
Bilingual staff will supervise students as they learn more about their possible career paths, personality traits, passion, strengths, and talents.
Registration is open to Latinas completing 9th or 10th grade.
Applicants must submit a signed registration form, a short essay and the $25 registration fee. There is no other cost to participate.
