Last Minute Shoppers Pack Into Stores Christmas Eve

It’s the last day to shop before Christmas and there were lots of people out and about trying to make sure they got every gift on their lists.

It’s Christmas Eve at Village Pointe and you can tell by the packed parking lot. “That’s a little tricky. Sometimes you get lucky if someone is just pulling out, but sometimes you have to maneuver and wait in the lots,” said John Mruk.

Then once you get inside the stores get ready to wait in line. “Omaha Steaks, Walmart, everywhere you go it’s like everybody forgot it was Christmas,” said Jerry Cundiff.

Cundiff has been out shopping since 6 a.m. He found the final thing on his list at Scheels and is now just waiting to check out. So far he’s clocked 25 minutes waiting, but he says he doesn’t mind.

Cundiff is one of many people willing to deal with the crowds. The reason for the last minute shopping? Some say they just didn’t have time to do it earlier. “We’ve just been really busy,” said Abby Ahmann.

Others say they like the possibility of discounts. “We are classic last minute shoppers. We still can get good deals and we have no problem doing it. We usually can knock it out in about 3 or 4 hours,” said Sabrina Dewispelare.

You’d think the rush may make things stressful, but these shoppers say they enjoy it. “It’s been busy, but that kind of makes the Christmas season. I think it’s kind of fun,” said Dewispelare.

Village Pointe closes at 5 p.m. Meanwhile some stores like Toys “R” Us and Target will stay open until 9 p.m.
