A Heartland man takes a plea deal minutes before his jury was to enter the courtroom.
Larry Gaines was pulled over by police officers back in March of 2012 for driving without headlights. It was 11pm.
When officers approached Gaines' vehicle he admitted to being in possession of marijuana and removed from the vehicle.
According to officers at the scene they witnessed Gaines drop something onto the street. The bag was recovered and tested positive for crack cocaine.
This morning just before his trial in Judge Joseph Troia's courtroom was to start Gaines informed the judge and attorneys he would plead guilty to the charge of possession of a controlled substance, crack cocaine.
Gaines faces up to a five year sentence and/or a $10,000 fine.
