County takes large package of bids for improvements.
Cass County leaders said one of the hoped-for factors in putting out a large bid package for the 2013-14 fiscal year asphalt overlay plan was that it would be more enticing to bidders, resulting in competitive bids. Two of the bids received were under the rough estimate for the repair, milling and asphalt work.
The Cassgram reports the notice to bidders called for just under 5,000 square feet of patching, 1.1 million square feet of milling and 10¼ miles of asphalt overlay.
The biggest section is the milling, patching and two-inch asphalt overlay on a paved section between Highway 1 and Highway 66. The state built the road that runs on 54th Street, Church Road and 42nd Street 30 years ago as a detour while Highway 75 was under construction and then the county took over maintenance.
Also in the bid package:
-Extensive patching, milling and a 2.5 inch overlay on Waconda Road. (County crews will do tree and dirt work prior to the asphalt work.)
-Milling and patching on Rock Bluff Road from Highway 75 east to 2nd Avenue (by Mr. Landscape)
-Patching and an overlay in Copper Corral
-Patching on 96th Street north of Cedar Creek Road
-Patching on Cedar Creek Road
-Patching on Chicago Avenue south of Plattsmouth
-Patching by the I-80 Speedway
The estimate for the package was $1.5 million.
The bids as opened this week:
-Pavers Construction - $1,372,835

-Constructors Inc. - $1,391,833
-Western Engineering - $1,699,736
The bids are being reviewed and the awarding of the contract is set for November 19th.
---There was another bid opening this week too, for two six-wheel drive motor graders. The county requested prices that included the trade-in of two John Deere 770D motor graders.
