When Omaha police and the Nebraska Humane Society served a search warrant Wednesday morning, they found a jungle of unusual evidence: An elaborate marijuana growing operation, numerous tortoises and turtles, a rat snake, and a 2 ½ foot American alligator.
See attached photo of alligator.
The man living at 1022 N. 32nd Street is identified as 30-year old David J. Randall. He was arrested and cited for numerous violations including harboring a non-domestic animal. He was also cited for numerous counts of animal cruelty because the animals were living in filthy conditions. They are being examined for medical issues based on a lack of proper care.
The search warrant was based on a tip that Randall had an alligator in the house.
Police describe the drug growing operation as a fairly elaborate hydroponic operation with more than 75 live plants and manufacturing equipment.
