The hot and muggy weather didn’t stop many kids and their families from attending Play Streets in north Omaha Saturday afternoon.

Twenty-Fourth Street between Lake and Carter was closed off between noon and 5 p.m. Instead of traffic, kids could play in the streets and there was a ton of activities for them to do. From hula hooping to jump roping, the idea was to get the kids out and playing in their community.

“It is exciting and it's something that the community actually needs for the kids to have some time to come out and enjoy themselves and play, especially the ones who don't have a drive way or area that they can ride bikes in,” said parent Monica Brown.

Brown’s daughter learned how to ride a bike at the event. This was the last of four Play Streets that’s taken place around Omaha. It’s all thanks to a grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
