A Heartland man, accused of a brutal kidnapping, is representing himself in Pottawattamie County Court.
Bryan Bey told his jury pool he is the reason for the criminal justice system but that he does not trust anyone with the public defenders office.
Pottawattamie County Attorney Matt Wilber is expected to bring more than 30 people to the stand to testify and is confident he has the evidence to convict Bryan Bey for the crime.
Authorities say in the spring of 2012 Bey and an alledged accomplice Travis Labno handcuffed and beat Tabitha Proplesch for approximately 12 hours - then left her for dead outside of Crescent, Iowa.
Bey's defense will apparently center around a type of "street justice" where people who don't trust the police take care of the crimes committed against them.
Charges against Travis Labno have been dropped in Pottawattamie County.
