Jack And Jack Now At 2.1 Million Followers And Growing

It's been an unusual senior year at Omaha Westside for Jack Gilinsky and Jack Johnson. They've become national superstars through the social media app Vine.

Vine users are allowed to post videos using their cell phones not longer that 6 seconds in length.

The two 17-year olds who became best friends in kindergarten, started posting videos as Jack and Jack last July and quickly grew a local fan base.

That following grew exponentially as their more popular Vines were resent by followers to others in their group.

"When the school year began we were at 38,000 followers," recalled Gilinsky.

Not long after that, Jack and Jack came up with a Vine that put them among the elite nationwide.

They call it Nerd Vandalism.

n the video Jack and Jack wear black rim glasses, bow ties with black shorts and proceed to "vandalize" an SUV with a sharpie. Next to the four by four emblem, they sneak up and add = 16.

The video ends with the two of them snickering as they run away.

"Some of the other top Viners called it genius," said Johnson. "We now have, I think, 800,000 likes on that Vine alone."

The current count is 2.1 million followers for Jack and Jack, who continue to post a new Vine just about everyday.

They are so successful in fact, a company out of California has flown the two of them along with other top Viners to meet and greet sessions in cities around the country.

The audience consists of young screaming girls who buy tickets for the opportunity to see their favorites in person.

And what Jack and Jack are really excited about is the success of a song they wrote and recorded in a makeshift home studio. When they published it online, It reached number 7 on the Hip Hop chart.

The Jack and Jack brand has become a money maker and their plan is to sock the money away for college and attend the same school to keep it going.

"We have another song we really like that we plan to publish," said Gilinsky.

The other Jack added, "Hopefully we can make a name for ourselves in the music industry, we'll see where it goes."
