At this pace drivers might consider waiting to get their gas tanks filled, but when it comes to gas prices anything could happen. In the past month, gas prices have fallen 42 cents in Nebraska and 45 cents in Iowa.

Those sharp declines are parallel other states in the past month.

Nationally, the price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.47 or 34 cents less than a month ago.

The American Automobile Association of Nebraska reports that lower crude oil prices have added to the recent downward pressure on retail gasoline prices. Continued signs of global economic weakness and a somewhat stronger U.S. dollar have helped to send West Texas Intermediate crude oil prices below $85 per barrel.

As of Monday, gas prices stood at an average of $3.40 in Nebraska and $3.34 in Iowa.
