The Iowa Board of Regents will hold its first hearing Friday to gather public feedback under a new initiative designed to enhance transparency.
The meeting will start at noon at the board's office in Urbandale, where speakers will be given a few minutes to air their opinions on proposals in front of the board.
The board on Wednesday afternoon will release its agenda for next week's two-day meeting. Future public hearings will be held on the campuses of the state's universities and special schools starting next month.
The public hearings were recommended by a task force that examined ways to make public information more accessible. Some critics of the board had complained that they were not allowed on the agenda during meetings.
