Inappropriate Coach/Player Relationship Alleged By State

The former girls soccer coach at Missouri Valley High School allegedly crossed the line with one of his female players last year. A 16 year old student.

Jason Dulberg resigned last summer and recently surrendered his license to coach. Documents obtained by Fact Finders detail the allegations by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. The state accused Dulberg of soliciting, encouraging or consummating a romantic or otherwise inappropriate relationship. A relationship that exceeded boundaries of an appropriate coach and student athlete relationship. The state claims the communication between the coach and player involved texts and cell phone. The Iowa Board Of Educational Examiners also alleges that Dulberg took the student athlete on an overnight trip out of state.

The state acknowledges the Dulberg voluntarily surrendered his Coach's license and that does not mean any admission of guilt.

Contacted by Fact Finders Jason Dulberg said, "A romantic relationship never happened." He said there was no so called sexting, nothing inappropriate, but he said he was just advising her. Dulberg admits to Fact Finders he communicated in excess with the student. Dulberg said, "I became emotionally involved with the family and I shouldn't have." He implied that meant the female player's relationship with her father.

While surrendering his coaches license the board also permanently revoked Dulberg's teaching certificate in Iowa. Dulberg was only a coach, not a teacher at Missouri Valley High.

He was the school's first soccer coach since the program started just a year ago. The District Superintendent said Dulberg was a good, experienced coached. He resigned last summer.

Fact Finders checked several law enforcement agencies but found no indication of a criminal investigation. In Iowa 16 is the age of consent.

Fact Finders contacted the girl's father and he declined comment.
