Identity Theft Crew Busted

A crew of suspected identity thieves has been busted in Omaha. After hitting several metro stores a few weeks ago they came back for more. But this time the Nebraska Furniture Mart security staff was ready.

Mart security chief Jim Cahill told Fact Finders, 'We knew they were coming and had intel they would be in Omaha." The crew of identity thieves included two men and thee woman using a rental van from Chicago. Once spotted in Omaha, plain clothes detectives and Mart security staff surrounded the van in the store's parking lot. Four suspects were arrested while in the van. A man waiting on a purchase inside the Mart was then taken into custody.

Cahill said, 'They were fully loaded with stolen credit cards, fake IDs and stolen identities"

A few weeks earlier one of the suspects had been at the Furniture Mart to purchase $6,000 worth of electronics. She used identification of a Mary Ann. Fact Finders won't reveal her last name. But after the Mart customer service sent her notice of the purchases the real Mary Ann said, 'I called them up and asked them what this was and was told you made purchases here. I'm like no I've never even been to Nebraska, I live in New Jersey."

The real Mary Ann told Fact Finders her home escaped serious damage in Hurricane Sandy but expects to spend months repairing her credit. She said the identity thieves bought $17,000 in merchandise at several Omaha stores using her identity. Mary Ann said, 'I want to find out how they got my information."
