"...I Can Actually Call Somebody Mom And Dad Again"

Seventy kids were adopted in Douglas County on Saturday as part of National Adoption Day.

One of those adopted was 16-year-old Jasmine McCain. When you meet McCain you can’t help but notice her infectious smile and bright personality. You would never guess that she has gone through some tough times. “My mom and dad passed away. I ended up going into foster care."

Now she’s looking towards a new life after being adopted by Bryant and Nikki McCain. “I’m really relieved that I can actually call somebody mom and dad again."

After making it official before a judge, the new families then participated in fun activities. Three-year-old Isiah got his face painted. His new parents, the Hancocks, are thrilled. “You go through a lot of stuff as a foster parent. It’s just nice that it’s finalized and we can move on as a family,” said Bill Hancock.

While it’s a happy ending for these kids, there are still many more in need of permanent families. Adoption officials hope this event will continue to bring awareness of that need and touch the hearts of adults, like it did the McCains.

“Words cannot describe,” said Bryant.

“I am excited, I have a little girl,” said Nikki.
