The University of Nebraska-Lincoln will compete in the Game Day Challenge recycling competition Saturday as the Huskers host Michigan State.
It will be UNL's fourth consecutive year in the competition. The Game Day Challenge aims to divert as much waste as possible during one fall football game. Dozens of volunteers will be needed outside Memorial Stadium to help round up refuse from tailgaters.
The Game Day Challenge measures success based on waste minimization, diversion rate, greenhouse gas reduction and other factors. Last year, UNL ranked second in the Big Ten Conference in both waste minimization and diversion rate.
