Husker Fan Day, College Football On Their Minds

Twenty-seven days until college football season begins. Friday afternoon the team hosted Husker Fan Day inside Memorial Stadium. It was the chance to see players and coaches, get autographs and step foot on the same field they play games.

Brian Solomon waited outside Gate 15 for two hours. He was waiting to get in and fill two footballs and a jersey with autographs. “With there being two footballs that we have, my son is going to go to Bo Pelini’s and I’m going to go to Rex Burkhead's line."

He wasn’t there to get autographs for himself. He is collecting them to auction off for a fundraiser for a friend who was injured in a car accident.

Some of the popular stops for fans included quarterback Taylor Martinez, running back Rex Burkhead and head coach Bo Pelini. Plenty of fans made the trek up the steps to get autographs from this year's freshman class.

Though most fans were local, some traveled quite a distance. “I didn’t know it was today until yesterday, we’ve only been in the country for three days,” said Louie Valasek. His wife is stationed at an Air Force base in England. “It is very cool to be here today and it is very hard watching the Huskers overseas with the time difference."

Louie said he'll be taking the jersey and poster back with him, displaying it with pride. As will most fans, with the Huskers ranked 16th in the preseason coaches poll, they have a lot to look forward to.
