Hundreds of Fremont residents will soon get an unwelcome letter from the city.
The message? Fix your sidewalk.
The Fremont Tribune reports about 300 residents will be sent the letters and told they have 60 days to repair their sidewalks.
City Planner Rian Harkins says city staff completed a sidewalk survey showing the sidewalks that need work.
Harkins says the 60-day deadline is longer than the city requires for most nuisance issues and zoning code violations.
Staffers will refer residents who can't afford the work to local agencies that can help.
Harkins notes that often only sections of sidewalks need repairs. Other times, neighbors might be able to share a contractor to save time and money.
