"How Do You Murder Someone In Front Of A 3-Year-Old?"

Omaha police have asked for the public’s help in solving the murder of 29-year-old Gary Rice. More than a dozen people joined in prayer outside of Rice’s home Friday hoping justice and peace will come. Rice’s family is also looking for answers.

Rice was shot in the head when two men forced their way into his residence at 21st and Poppleton during a home invasion last Sunday night. The reason why is still unknown.

“I was told they played Russian roulette before they shot him,” said Rice’s aunt, Linda Alvarez. “That was an awful way to die." Alvarez has a message for the killers. “I want you to look at my face and I want you to know that I believe in God and you won't get away with this. I believe in the Omaha police, that they will find them. The man upstairs will get them."

She admits Rice knew gang members, related to some, but says her nephew wasn't one himself. She certainly doesn't get who would take their time and kill someone in front of his 3-year-old son. “These people had to be cold-blooded. How do you murder someone in front of a 3-year-old? How do you do that? That's my question, how do you do that?"

The family says Rice's brother, Andrew Galligo, was murdered two years ago. Two people went to prison for that. Alvarez is praying that moms and dads can come together and get to their children now about why the shootings need to stop.

Rice was Omaha’s 29th homicide victim this year. Police ask that anyone with information about the murder call 402-444-7867. Any information will remain private. They don't want to know who you are, just anything that could lead to the arrest of the killer.
