Helping local heroes buy and sell homes is the goal of a program moving into the metro. Realtors are taking a hit so they can help the men and women who help us all.
Realtor Mamie Jackson's journey of giving back is just beginning. “We got the email just a couple of weeks ago from Homes for Heroes. The name alone resonated with her. “This is a brand new program to Omaha and to Nebraska.”
Jackson is using her realtor expertise to help Homes for Heroes save money when buying and selling homes for heroes like active or retired military men and women, law enforcement, teachers, firefighters, doctors and nurses. “They could save anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000,” says Jackson. “It is a significant savings."
Those savings come from Jackson's pocket as 25 percent of her commission is rebated back to the hero. “My husband and I were talking about it. We have no military in our family, no firefighters, no police in our family, yet we go to bed every night, tuck in our kids and someone is doing the work and we aren't, so we just wanted to say thanks."
Just talking about it is emotional for Jackson, who hopes it inspires others. “We are the only realtors so far. Again, I'm sure once maybe word gets out and realtors see this they'll kind of look at it again, a cause that we believe in strongly, that other realtors will feel the same way and jump on board."
