House fire in small community. Fire departments from Avoca, Weeping Water, Manley, Nehawka, Elmwood and Union fought the blaze in the single family structure on Nance Street in Avoca,Nebraska yesterday morning. No one was at home at the time.
The Cassgram said the the fire had apparently been burning for awhile before a neighbor noticed it and called 911, said Avoca Fire Chief Martin Brammier. The first Avoca firefighters were on scene within three minutes and flames were already visible on their approach. Brammier credits the good work of firefighters in containing the fire to mainly the living room and one bedroom. However, there was considerable smoke and heat damage throughout the structure. There are some items in the house that are salvageable.
Brammier will be at the scene today with a state fire marshal office investigator to begin determining the cause.
The Red Cross is assisting the family. Brammier said it’s his understanding that a previously planned community event in Avoca is being re-organized to also be a fundraiser to help the family.
