The Douglas County Attorney has filed charges against the man arrested in connection to a deadly hit and run crash.
Jefferson Potter is charged with manslaughter, theft by unlawful taking, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. At the time of the crash Friday, Potter was on parole.
He is expected to make his first court appearance on Wednesday morning.
On Friday, Potter allegedly stole a truck and trailer from a lawn care company in the area of 33rd and Arbor. Later the same day, witnesses reported Potter was driving erratically and speeding when he collided with a vehicle driven by Ryan Ashburn at Saddle Creek and Leavenworth. The passenger in Ashburn's vehicle, Jennifer Siemens was killed.
Potter allegedly tried to run from the scene; however, several witnesses to the crash chased him and held him until police arrived.
Police arrived and discovered that Potter was carrying a loaded handgun in his back pocket, " I'm glad i didn't know that before hand , said Jasa.
Jasa says he reacted on instinct and he thinks he might have been a little more hesitant if he knew Potter had a gun.
