A driver who refused to pull over led Iowa State Patrol troopers on a chase that ended in Council Bluffs Friday morning.
A trooper tried to stop the driver from Minnesota on Interstate 29 north of Mondamin for a seat belt violation. Stop sticks were deployed, but the driver continued for about 12 miles at speeds up to 80 mph as two tires were slowly deflating.
Along the way the man was seen throwing items from the vehicle. None of the items appear to be illegal, so troopers aren't sure why he fled.
An ISP plane kept tabs on the car from the air. A trooper intentionally clipped the back of the sedan at South 16th Street and 28th Avenue in Council Bluffs, forcing it to spin out. The driver told investigators as he was taken into custody that he was going to drive until he ran out of gas.
