A dog wounded during a home invasion is doing better today. Rex the dog was hit by a bullet on May 17th while protecting his owners.

Thanks to the kindness of others, Rex was able to get surgery to fix his fractured leg.

"It's been very kind of people. Everybody is thinking of him as a hero because he is. It's unfortunate he got shot because of his efforts but we're going to try to keep his leg and have it heal," said veterinarian Ellis Jensen with the Mobile Animal Clinic near 120th and West Center.

The recovery for Rex will be at least 6-8 weeks.
