Learning about helping people across the world and in your own backyard.
That's the goal of a Bible Camp at St. Andrews United Methodist Church near 150th and West Maple Road.
Monday night and Tuesday morning, 350 kids will each assemble a backpack of supplies to give to an at-risk child.
The backpacks are targeted for after school programs at the area's 18 elementary programs.
In addition, each child will make a personal card as a way of communicating with another child across the metro area.
It's one small step to solve larger problems.
“Each year we pick some theme and then we support that both locally and globally,” Director of Children's Ministries Abby Johnson said. “Usually the global support comes from raising some funds, so this year we picked an organization called 'pencils of promise' and we're raising money to help support some school for basically an entire year.”
The church hopes to raise $2,500 for the program.
