Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman has awarded a $505,000 grant to the city of Columbus to update and expand a call center.

The community development block grant is designed to help Apogee
Retail, LLC buy new software and equipment, and renovate a former
Walmart store where it will operate.

The project is expected to generate 100 new full-time positions.

The total project will cost $1.3 million, which includes a company investment and loan from the city.

Apogee Retail established call center operations in Columbus in
April 2008.

The company currently employees 572 full- and part-time workers, and focuses on hiring people with disabilities.

The nonprofit partners with charities for the scheduling and pick-up of donated clothing and household goods.
