Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman has been honored by the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs (NASDVA) for his work on behalf of soldiers, veterans and their families.
"NASDVA is proud to honor Gov. Heineman with this prestigious award for their tireless service and unwavering support they provide to the men and women of our Armed Forces and to their families,” said Jim Willis, director of the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs and NASDVA President.
Among Nebraska’s veterans outreach initiatives, NASDVA applauded Gov. Heineman for his involvement in publicizing the state’s “Not One More Life!” bumper sticker campaign that brings public awareness to the growing problem of military and veteran suicides. State VA directors also credited Gov. Heineman for taking a personal interest in promoting the U.S. Chamber of Commerce “Hiring Our Heroes” program; a national initiative that encourages employers to hire veterans.
NASDVA is made up of of VA directors and commissioners of each state as well as the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.
