Hartington Girl Wins Weather Poster Contest

A 10-year-old girl from northeast Nebraska has won first place in an annual state severe weather poster contest.

Brynn Wortmann, a fourth-grade student from Holy Trinity in Hartington, earned first place with her poster "Lightning is Frightening...Respect It."

The contest, open to Nebraska's fourth-grade students, was sponsored by the Nebraska Association of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service and the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency.

The top finishers were recognized by Gov. Dave Heineman at a ceremony Wednesday in Lincoln.

The second-place winner was 9-year-old Jerome Silva of St. Paul and in third place was 10-year-old Cleopatra Thomas of Creighton. Nine-year-old Izak Spann of Wymore took fourth place.
