After 65 years and 3 locations, a family restaurant in Harlan, Iowa is marking the end of an era.
Mickel's Family Restaurant was opened in 1948 by the original owners and was sold in 1972 to Kenny and Sue Kobold. It has had three different locations throughout the years; all within about 50 yards of each other.
The decision to sell the property and close the restaurant was made after Kenny Kobold became ill.
"The restaurant has been a big part of this community and our lives," said Sue Kobold.
"Since our decision to close, we have heard from many of our old employees and customers; local and throughout the country. There are many great memories here."
On Sunday, the restaurant hosted a customer appreciation day.
The doors will close Monday for the final time at 2 p.m.
