In a gust of wind a neighborhood eyesore in Gretna has gone from nuisance to hazard. Fed up neighbors contacted fact finders once again.
On April first Dave Distefano said he wasn't fooling. "If we get a strong wind this whole thing is coming down." Last weekend his prediction came true. Dave says, " It looked like the wave at memorial stadium and it slowly started creeping and cracking and then she all came down."
A 12 foot high homemade grudge fence that a neighbor family put up came down. But they abandoned the house last fall so if in foreclosure a bank controls the property. And the property is dangerous. The fallen fence ready to cut any curious kids.
Dave says, " You got nails and screws and splintered wood."
Gretna city notices remain taped to the door so neighbors like Dave mow the front yard. The next door neighbor says, " Who else is going to do it."
But keeping the front yard presentable only disguises a dangerous mess in the back that neighbors say can affect them anytime the wind blows.
Gretna’s building official tells fact finders the city will be contacting the bank and property management company again. He says the property will be moved up on the city's priority list.
