The National Weather Service continues the heat advisory through Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures once again on Tuesday will rise to the upper 90s however high humidity will make it feel like 105 to 110 degrees.
Senator Chuck Grassley asked President Obama Thursday to grant the request made by Governor Terry Branstad for a federal declaration of a major disaster in response to damaging winds, tornadoes, heavy rains, and thunderstorms resulting in severe flooding beginning June 21, 2013, through June 28, 2013.
In a letter to the President, Grassley said, “The Governor determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and affected local governments to handle effectively and federal assistance is needed.”
This severe weather system caused significant damage to both public infrastructure and private property. The 10 counties included in this disaster declaration request are Allamakee, Benton, Buchanan, Butler, Cedar, Clayton, Delaware, Howard, Jones, and Winneshiek.
