Gov. Dave Heineman is urging Nebraska drivers to use caution this Memorial Day holiday.
In his latest weekly column, the Nebraska governor says all drivers should buckle up when they get behind the wheel.
Nebraska saw 181 traffic fatalities in 2011, but driving deaths are up this year from a year ago. Heineman says that of the 59 fatalities recorded through April this year, only eight of the 49 vehicle passengers were wearing seat belts.
Heineman says state law enforcement will again participate in the annual "Click It or Ticket" seat belt safety campaign, which begins ahead of Memorial Day weekend and continues through June 3.
During that time, officers will conduct special enforcement operations that will include checking for seat belts use and proper child restraints.
