Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman is seeking applicants for a youth advisory council that meets quarterly to discuss education, economic development, and other policy issues.

Heineman announced Monday that the council has seven vacancies. The group meets regularly with the governor and attends an annual luncheon with state senators.

The Governor's Youth Advisory Council was created in 1993, to provide young people ages 14 to 19 a chance to explore the legislative process and the executive branch.

Group members share their opinions with the governor on various issues, including alcohol and drug laws. On Monday, Heineman invited the group to a press conference where he fielded questions from reporters.

Applications are available on the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation website, or by calling 402-817-2003.
