A letter that looks official has some disabled and elderly residents wondering if it’s a scam. It states that survey taker will be coming around to ask them questions about government services provided by Federal Health and Human Services.
However the letter is addressed to resident. Mike McCuistion received one. He said, “To send something to us that says- resident- with my address is suspicious. You would think a government program would use my name.”
Mike and others in his subsidized apartment building in Fremont worry it’s an attempt to get personal information for identity theft.
Six on Your Side contacted the government subcontractor that is conducting the survey. Pat Givens of R-T-I international said it’s extremely legitimate and a way the government can determine if people are getting the services they need.
The letter states 200,000 people are randomly being contacted across the county. Givens said it’s wise for those who are contacted to be suspicious.
