The Plattsmouth Post Office is no longer on the chopping block. Word came Tuesday morning that the Western Area and Headquarters of the United States Postal Service has removed the Plattsmouth Post Office from the study of possible post office closures.
The local Save the Post Office Committee said it was very excited to hear this news.
The Cassgram reports the committee met Monday to get a count of its petition drive and found out there were 3,000 signatures urging the continued operation of the Plattsmouth Post Office. “This is a fantastic show of support from our community members,” said the committee. “It was great to see so many residents from all walks of life come together to support this endeavor. Whether you receive your mail at your door or make trips to the physical post office, this is a great resolution for all who are serviced by the Plattsmouth Post Office.”
The committee said it understands USPS is continuing to look at expenses and is investigating a different facility to lease. “Of course, we know that the expenses of running the postal system will continue to be reviewed, but at this time the Plattsmouth Post Office will remain open.”
