Benson High Magnet School’s Junior ROTC cadets will host a pancake feed to raise money for a trip to France next year to commemorate D-Day.
The feed will take place on Sunday, April 28, from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Benson VFW Post 2503 at 8904 Military Rd. Proceeds will go to raise money for the group's trip to the 70th D-Day Memorial Parade in Normandy, France in June 2014.
The cost is $8 per person or $25 per family. Benson’s JRTOC program was selected to represent Nebraska at the D-Day Memorial Parade and Musical Salute to the Veterans, which will commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy, France and the liberation of Europe.
As part of the trip to Normandy, 25 Benson High Magnet JROTC cadets and their instructors will have the opportunity to march in the commemorative parade, tour historic battlefields and experience history firsthand.
In order to take part in this educational opportunity, the cadets need to raise $75,000 to cover airfare, lodging fees and transportation costs in France. The pancake feed is one of many fundraising events planned, which include car washes, a 5K run, cookie dough sales, a motorcycle rally, garage sale and online auction.
