Friends Helping Family Of Murdered Mother Of Three

As Douglas County Sheriff investigators continue their hunt for a killer, friends of Andrea Kruger work to support her family.

Kruger was shot to death and her SUV taken a week ago near 168th and Fort. Now even strangers are getting involved in the outpouring of support.

Inside this northwest Omaha lounge and grill "The Cove", friends of Andrea Kruger want to help her husband and three children left behind.

"I think the whole community has been touched by this,” said friend Dusty Cook. “Even if they didn't know Andrea. I think they've all been affected. Whatever we can do to help them feel a little more secure. Decisions don't have to be accomplished right now. There are friends and family around that can help them."

On Sunday -- this place where Andrea would work twice a week -- turns into a party with a purpose.

"She was amazing inside and out,” said Dusty. “And what she did here."

Every dollar raised goes to her family. Some things like the donation box are already in place.

Organizers are expecting a good number of people -- especially judging from the standing-room only crowd at her funeral.

Her husband, Michael-Ryan, is expected here too. "He read a love letter that he wrote to her and it there was not a dry eye in the place,” said friend Dusty. “It was very touching and moving."

As for the investigation -- publicly -- little has changed.

The sheriff continues to work leads -- and follow the evidence of what has been described as a "random" shooting.

Detectives are analyzing the security cameras along 168th street -- looking for clues.

"When we heard it was random -- I don't even know how to react to that,” said Dusty. “Things like that just don't happen out here. We would like some sort of closure."

The live music begins at 5 p.m. Sunday at The Cove on the southwest corner of 144th & Maple. DJ’s will play after 9 p.m.

Here's another example of the generosity: There's been a sign-up list to provide daily meals for the family. We’re told the slots are taken through the end of October.

The sheriff tells us-- when there is an arrest-- we'll know about it.
